Alexa: Echo, Echo Dot and Echo Show

How it works. At each prayer time, Adhan Clock lets Alexa know it is time, and your Echo plays the adhan. You set up one Alexa Routine once, and from then on the full adhan plays by itself for each salah. At Fajr your Echo plays the Fajr adhan you chose.

Adhan Clock is live on the Alexa Skills Store in the US. Say Alexa, enable Adhan Clock, or follow the steps below.

Set it up once, on your phone

  1. Open the Amazon Alexa app, search the skills for Adhan Clock and tap Enable.
  2. Sign in with your Amazon account. The Adhan Clock page opens: search for your city (or tap Use my location), choose the calculation method (or Automatic for my region), Asr, your Fajr adhan and the Adhan for the other prayers, then tap Save and link.
  3. Alexa looks for devices and finds Adhan Clock. If it does not, say Alexa, discover my devices.
  4. In the Alexa app, create a Routine. For When this happens, choose Smart Home, then Adhan Clock. Alexa calls this moment Opens: that means it is prayer time. Add two actions, in this order: Device Settings, Volume, set to 6 or higher, so Fajr is loud enough even if the Echo was turned down the night before; then Skills, Adhan Clock. For From, pick the Echo you will hear, such as the one you sleep near. Save it. For more than one Echo, make one Routine for each.
  5. Test it: say Alexa, ask adhan clock to play the azan. You should hear the adhan for the prayer that has started. Say Alexa, stop to end it.

Did not hear the adhan?

Open your Adhan Clock settings and sign in with Amazon: Today on your Echo shows each prayer and what your Echo reported, such as Played in full. If it played and you did not hear it, add the Volume action to your Routine and check that From is the right Echo. If it says no Echo opened Adhan Clock, check that the Routine is turned on.

Say it your way

Adhan Clock understands adhan, azan, azaan, athan and call to prayer: Alexa, ask adhan clock to play the azaan or Alexa, ask adhan clock to play the call to prayer.

To skip the name, make a voice Routine: in the Alexa app, create a Routine, for When this happens choose Voice and type play the azan. For the action choose Skills, then Adhan Clock. Now Alexa, play the azan plays it. Make one for each phrase your family uses, such as call to prayer.

To change your location or adhans: disable the skill and enable it again; the linking page opens again.

Google: Nest Hub, Nest Mini and Nest Audio

There are two routes. Use the first today.

Route 1, works today: the Android app sends the adhan

The Adhan Clock Android app on any Android phone, tablet or Google TV on your Wi-Fi casts the adhan file to the Nest speakers, Nest Hubs and speaker groups you pick, at each prayer.

Route 2, not live yet: through Google Home, with no device at home

Status: not live yet, so there is nothing to set up today. The cloud part is built and tested on our side. It goes live once the Google Home developer project is approved and set up.

How Route 2 will work

How it will work. At each prayer time, Adhan Clock lets Google Home know it is time, and your Nest speaker plays the adhan. Adhan Clock appears in your Google Home twice: Adhan Clock turns on at Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib and Isha, and Adhan Clock Fajr turns on at Fajr. An automation you make once plays an adhan from your music service on the speaker you pick.

  1. In the Google Home app, add a device that works with Google Home and choose Adhan Clock. The Adhan Clock linking page opens: pick your place, method and Asr, then tap Link. Adhan Clock and Adhan Clock Fajr appear. To confirm on your phone
  2. Create two automations, one for Adhan Clock and one for Adhan Clock Fajr. For the starter, choose the moment it turns on: that means it is prayer time. For the action, choose a command such as play the adhan on YouTube Music on the speaker you want. To confirm on your phone

Not checked yet: whether a free music account plays the track without an advert, and whether Google speaks before the adhan starts.

  • Google ended Conversational Actions, the old way to build voice apps for Nest devices, on June 13, 2023 (Google's notice), so there is no Adhan Clock action to install.
  • Nest Hub clock face: the Adhan Clock face for Nest Hub is ready at /cast. It will show the clock full screen on a Nest Hub once Google approves it, started from a phone or tablet on the same Wi-Fi.
  • The adhan file itself on every speaker, with no music service, needs a device at home that casts it: that is Route 1.
